Pictured: The amazing moment Mila the Beluga whale saved a stricken diver’s life by pushing her to the surface

It looks like a moment of terror - a diver finds her leg clamped in the jaws of a beluga whale. In fact, it was a stunning example of an animal coming to the rescue of a human life.

Yang Yun, 26, was taking part in a free diving contest without breathing equipment among the whales in a tank of water more than 20ft deep and chilled to Arctic temperatures.

She says that when she tried to return to the surface, she found her legs crippled by cramp from the freezing cold. At that point Mila the beluga took a hand, or rather a flipper.

وبدأ اصطياد القطط في الرابع عشر من ايار/مايو ولم يتوقف مذاك.

وكان اصحاب عدة قطط مذبوحة قد عمدوا الى التخلص من الجيف الملقاة في حدائقهم بسرعة، وهذا ما دفع بالشرطة الى الطلب من السكان عدم تحريك الضحايا المقبلة من اجل تسهيل الحصول على قرائن اضافية توضح طريقة عمل السفاح

"تحرير" 464 طيراً من شقة صغيرة في برلين

برلين - أ. ف. ب:

    قام الاتحاد الالماني لحماية الحيوانات وخدمات الطب البيطري ب"تحرير" 464 طيرا من الكناري وانثى الببغاء من شقة تقل مساحتها عن خمسين مترا مربعا في برلين.

واوضح بيان صادر عن الاتحاد ان العصافير التي كانت تعيش "في ظروف تفوق التصور" عثر عليها وسط كمية كبيرة من النفايات والبراز.

وقال رئيس الاتحاد فولفغانغ ابيل "للاسف نحن مضطرون مجددا للتدخل لانقاذ الحيوانات من ظروق قاسية" موضحا ان "ظاهرة امتلاك اعداد كبيرة جدا من الحيوانات باتت منتشر

Doing yoga, doggie style

Classes for people and their pets popping up in cities nationwide

BELLEVUE, Wash. - By the end of a recent yoga class, many participants were passed out on their mats, in a position their instructor calls the “upward facing belly pose.”

That’s largely because about half the group was about to walk out on four legs: The Seattle/King County Humane Society now offers 40 minute classes of “doggie yoga.”

Brenda Bryan, who teaches human yoga as well as the new class for both dogs and humans, says the dogs react to the gentle energy in the room.

As we get into it, the dogs all kind of calm down,” said Bryan, who developed the poses for the class by working with her own two dogs — Gus, a mixed breed, and Honey, a Shar Pei-Boxer mix — and talking to instructors in such cities as New York, Los Angeles and

-When we saw the first photos of the new First Dog, Bo, we knew it wouldn’t take long for the haters to come out, fangs bared.

But you said you were going to adopt a dog.

Yes, that’s what President Obama said.

Bo is a 6-month-old Portuguese water dog, a gift from Senator Ted Kennedy. Bo had originally lived with another family but didn’t get along with the other dogs. The family gave him back to the Kennedys, and Kennedy in turn gifted him to Malia and Sasha Obama.

Technically, I think that makes Bo a “rescue.” Or maybe secondhand. I’m not sure.

Yes, it would have been a lovely gesture for the Obamas to have set (yet another) example.

But big-picture here. Bo is going to make two little girls very, very happy. And in the end, that’s what really matters.

And my suggestion to the whiners: Put your money where your mouth is and make a donation to your local animal shelter. Or better yet, rescue one of those cuties yourself.

Giraffe Adds Tasty Morsels to its Daily Diet

An adult giraffe eats up to 34kg (75lbs) of foliage a day. You’d think, to get that much down it’s throat, it wouldn’t have time to be

Yet that’s not the case. Same as us, giraffes also like tasty titbits and when they find a source, will happily spend time plucking small, succulent leaves from the top of a tree.

The familiar, umbrella-shaped thorn trees of the African savannah provide one such favored source. The picture below (left) shows an adult male giraffe about to start feeding on a thorn tree in the Weenen Game Reserve, a smallish nature reserve in South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal province.

I was able to approach fairly close on foot and watched, fascinated, as the giraffe began browsing, sticking its long muzzle deep into the thicket of spiny branches.

Unconcerned by the mass of thorns, the giraffe flicked his long tongue around selected twigs, stripping away the green leaves - see picture below, right.

مزارع يضرم النار في حمار دمر محصوله من الخس

    سارع المزارع مراد داودي (53 عاما) الذي يقطن في احدى قرى مدينة شيراز الايرانية في فورة غضب الى اضرام النار في حمار دخل مزرعته على حين غفلة ودمر محصوله من الخس فقام بسكب كمية من البنزين على الحمار قبل أن يشعل النار.

وطالب مراد من القاضي الرأفة به بعد أن أصدر حكماً بجلده 50 جلدة.

واكد مراد للقاضي بان صحته لا تسمح له بتحمل هذا العقاب فخير بين قبول الحكم الصادر بحقه او حفظ 20 حديثا اسلاميا حول ضرورة الرفق بالحيوان اضافة الى عدم زراعة الخس في مزرعته لمدة عام كامل مع التزامه بإيواء حمار لمدة ثلاثة اشهر مع العناية به، فاختار مراد الذي اكد بأنه نادم على فعلته الحكم الثاني.

    أعلن مسؤولون من جمعية "هيوستن للرأفة بالحيوانات" أنها وضعت يدها على 1045 حيواناً وطائرا في منزل واحد بولاية تكساس الأميركية، بسبب سوء معاملة الحيوانات.

ونقلت صحيفة "هيوستن كرونيكل" الأميركية امس الجمعة عن المفتش في الجمعية شارلز جانتزن قوله ان عدداً كبيراً من الحيوانات، التي نقلت من المنزل الموجود في شمال غرب هيوستن، كان محتجزاً في أقفاص مع كميات قليلة جداً من الماء والطعام.

وقال جانتزن "كانت الحيوانات في وضع مأساوي ، وعدد قليل منها كان يحصل على أساسيات الحياة أي الطعام والماء والمأوى". يشار إلى أن غالبية الحيوانات، التي نقلت بعد تلقي الجمعية بلاغاً من شخص مجهول كانت عصافير، وإنما أُنقذ أيضاً كلاب وأفاع وسحليات وجرابيع وعنزة. وقالت المتحدثة باسم الجمعية ميرا ناندال "وجدنا عنزة نحيلة جداً تتنقل حول المنزل".

وأشارت الصحيفة إلى أن مالكي المنزل، الذين لم يتم التعريف عنهم، قالوا للسلطات إنهم يبيعون الحيوانات في أسواق رخيصة.

• Houston SPCA Seizes 1,000 Animals from Home

HOUSTON, Sept. 24 (UPI) — Officials with the Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals say they seized 1,045 animals from a local home on suspicion of mistreatment.

Houston SPCA investigator Charles Jantzen said many of the animals taken from a northwest Houston home Wednesday had been crammed into cages and were living with little food and water, the Houston Chronicle reported Thursday.

“They were in deplorable conditions throughout the entire property,” Jantzen said. “Very few of the animals had the basic staples of life — food, water and shelter.”
